16 kW Kentucky Solar Array Demo Install at Hopkinsville Electrical System

Hopkinsville Electrical System (HES) is the not-for-profit energy provider for over 13,000 people in this W. Kentucky city, situated in TVA supply territory. HES wanted to make a bold statement to its customers about the potential solar offers, both at a utility generation level and on their own homes under the Green Power Providers Program.

Positioned right in front of their HQ the utility had Solar Energy Solutions build two pole-mounted arrays, each with 8.0 kW of solar. A very strong visual statement. Pole mounted arrays are fairly rare in the industry, even though SES has executed more than its fair share. Design and engineering are critical in such projects as the height and panel mass-produce a wind resistance that needs to be accounted for if it is to be approved as meeting expected local extreme weather conditions.

These mountings required 10’ deep footings into which 8” steel pipe was cemented to ensure maximum stability and safety. Quite the solar statement to everybody who drives by or visits to pay their bills.
