Family-Owned Feed and Farm Supply Company
This solar energy project is helping a family-owned feed and farm supply company serving multiple counties in Kentucky reduce operating costs and improve energy efficiency across its operations. Installed by Solar Energy Solutions, the system includes solar arrays at five locations and is supported by funding from the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The installation is expected to generate between 68 percent and 100 percent of each site’s electricity needs, with an estimated payback period of less than 3.5 years, making it a financially attractive investment amid rising energy costs.
Beyond financial benefits, the project delivers significant environmental impact by substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The energy generated is equivalent to removing more than 1,500 cars from the road annually, offsetting the electricity use of over 800 homes, and providing carbon sequestration comparable to thousands of acres of forest. The project reflects a broader trend among rural businesses of adopting renewable energy solutions to strengthen long-term sustainability and energy independence, while taking advantage of available federal incentives for commercial solar installations.
