One of the most straightforward ways to finance a home solar system is through a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) from your existing bank or lender. Because a HELOC uses your home’s equity as collateral, it typically offers lower interest rates than unsecured personal loans. Additionally, the interest may be tax-deductible. If you’ve built up equity in your home, this can be a simple, cost-effective path to solar ownership. We recommend speaking with your bank or credit union to explore current HELOC rates and terms.

SES has also partnered with Clean Energy Credit Union, a nonprofit, mission-driven lender dedicated exclusively to clean energy financing. Their solar loans offer competitive fixed rates, terms up to 20 years, no prepayment penalties, and up to 100% financing — meaning no money down in many cases. Clean Energy Credit Union also offers a Rate Promise, guaranteeing your rate can only go down before your loan closes. As a registered dealer partner, SES customers have direct access to their lending programs.

Prepaid Solar Lease

Our prepaid lease offers another low-cost path to solar. You make a single upfront payment for a 15% to 30% discount, with no monthly payments for the first five years while SES maintains and monitors the system. After the initial five-year term, you can purchase the system for its fair market value or $1,000, whichever is greater, a minimal cost since the buyout reflects the payment you already made. The prepaid solar and battery lease is available in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. In Kentucky, the battery lease is available to everyone, and the solar lease is available to Kentucky Power (AEP) customers.
